This semester has really been important for me to focus on what I am going to do after I graduate. With that in mind, in order for me to be able to take away everything I have learnt by being a comm. major I wanted to start working on my showreel to be able to take with me to potential employees. The last few days I have been really working on the hosting side of my show reel. My friend who was operating the camera came with me to various locations around naples and helped me film interviews, a mixture of stand ups and memorized pieces to camera.
On Sunday October 7th I arranged an interview with the store manager of best buy and we talked about the I Phone 5, how the sales were, if best buy were selling the product, etc. The whole interview itself took 45 minutes including setting up.
I prepared a stand up piece for before and after the interview as well taking no more than an hour.
After this we went to another location, the range rover car dealership and I filmed part of my reel as if I was taking a range rover for a test drive. This took a few takes as I would run out of things to talk about or get confused as to what message I was trying to portray. This took 2 hours total
On Monday October 8th, I borrowed my dad's harley davidson and did a stand up piece to camera talking about road safety and the importance of wearing a helmet. I had rehearsed what I was going to say, without it being too scripted. Each time I would do the piece it would come out differently and I kept repeating it till I was satisfied that we had at least 4 or 5 good takes. This took an hour and a half.
On Tuesday October 9th, I wanted to talk more to the camera about a product, and seeing as my dad makes toys, I felt like it was fit to talk about one of his new toys that just hit the shelves in Wal-Mart. I included a demonstration on how to erect it, where it would be useful to use as well as price compared to leading competitors. We did an hour of shooting this as well as adding some goofy moments which would later be used in the editing process. This took an hour and a half of filming as well as setting up and working with the lighting and sounds/mic.
Later on that day of October 9th I started to edit all the footage I had captured over the last few days. This is the process that takes the longest time, I wanted to make the editing sharp and quick while capturing my personality. I changed the speed of some clips, added music, lower thirds and captions as well as working on the color of some clips. I worked on this for 4 hours total, as I had a LOT of footage to work with.
Total: 9 hours and 45 minutes

I realize you need practicum hours, but any hours outside of the health show, the sports show, the news show, or yearbook have to be approved by me in advance.
ReplyDeleteThese hours really don't count. You need to work on legitimate shows produced on campus. This will allow you to add to your resume reel.
